Bad Kids Press is beyond pleased to brag that we’re going to be part of Comicazi’s 3rd annual Battle of the Comic Shop Stars, a trivia challenge between all the best comic shops in Boston that’s held for charity and once again settles the vital question: who has too much time on their hands and who has outright forsaken a normal life to become full on pop culture space deities?
Bad Kids Press is throwing down the Infinity Gauntlet and assembling its own dog-eared, hastily assembled crew to see if we got what it takes to snag the crown from last year’s champion, Magic Dragon Comics.
So, who runs Bartertown?!
Chances are, it’s not us, but screw it. The Bad Kids are gonna go down in a ball of fire, sure, but only after we slip the surly bonds of Davis Square to touch the face of Galactus, Yes, we will burn up in a gloriously Technicolor reentry but they will sing songs about our tremendous humiliation for ages to come.
Not to fear, all this geek ignominy and mental anguish is well worth it, every team this year will be donating $100 to the charity group Boston Partners In Education, an organization that does some really important work with public schools including mobilizing community members to become academic mentors to young students.
The comic shops and organizations that are donating and competing this year are:
Against all these classy know-it-alls stands Team BKP. We’re not even underdogs, we’re like under pet rocks, or maybe under chia pets. We might even be so low as undercats…. Dang.
Come on, let’s do a roll call:
Tony McMillen (the guy writing this, also author of Nefarious Twit, super important)
Garth McMurray (artist behind Teach Comix, the strip that runs on this very website, way important)
Chris Miller (the writer behind Teach Comix, less important than Garth but marginally more important than Tony)
Okay, I’m out of pop culture references (or, His Snark Materials, if you will. Which you won’t, or at the very least, you shouldn’t) I’ll report back after the weekend with how we do.
Pray for Mojo.
